Mountain planning

Kilimanjaro climbing and safari

A climb-and-safari journey needs recovery built into it. The mountain and the plains ask different things of travellers, and the most comfortable itinerary respects that change of pace.

Which comes first?

Most travellers prefer to climb first, recover in Arusha, then move into a safari where the daily rhythm is gentler. This also keeps a fixed mountain start date from being affected by a longer road itinerary.

Build in breathing room

Avoid landing and immediately starting the climb. Allow arrival time for equipment checks and rest, and keep at least one buffer night before the safari section.
