Dress for the day, not the photograph
A breathable shirt, comfortable trousers or longer shorts and a light fleece cover most game-drive conditions. Muted colours hide dust well. Bright colours are not automatically a problem, but dark blue and black can attract tsetse flies in some areas. Your guide can advise based on the parks and season.
Early mornings can feel cold
Open vehicles, elevation and pre-sunrise departures can make a warm destination feel surprisingly cool. Carry a fleece or packable insulated layer that can be removed once the sun rises. A wind-resistant outer layer is useful if your itinerary includes highland areas around Ngorongoro.
Footwear should already be familiar
For vehicle-based safaris, clean and comfortable trainers or light walking shoes are usually enough. Choose sturdier footwear for walking safaris or Kilimanjaro. New boots can create more trouble than they solve, so wear them before departure.
Zanzibar has a different rhythm
Beachwear belongs at the beach or pool. In Stone Town and local communities, light clothing that covers shoulders and knees is a respectful, comfortable choice. Add sandals, a swimsuit, sun protection and a light layer for air-conditioned transfers.
