Bush and beach planning

Tanzania safari and Zanzibar itinerary

The strongest bush-and-beach itinerary changes pace deliberately. Put the more structured safari first, connect to Zanzibar efficiently and give the coast enough nights to feel like a genuine second chapter.

01

Use the safari as the first act

Safari days begin early and follow wildlife conditions. Placing them first avoids asking travellers to leave a relaxed beach stay for a fixed game-drive schedule. It also makes Zanzibar a natural place to slow down before flying home.

02

Protect five useful safari days

A compact northern circuit can connect Tarangire, central Serengeti and Ngorongoro in five days. Seven days allows more Serengeti depth or a slower pace. Do not shrink the safari below the route’s realistic travel time merely to add another beach night.

03

Make the transfer count

A flight from the Serengeti or Arusha can save a full road day. Compare schedules, baggage allowances and the location of the Zanzibar airport transfer. The cheapest connection may cost the first beach day in waiting and transit.

04

Choose one Zanzibar priority

For three nights, decide between a relaxed beach base and a Stone Town plus coast split. With five nights, combine culture, swimming and an excursion without rushing. Tides vary around the island, so match the coast to how you want to spend the water time.
